NCR LAUNCHES THREE MONTHS DRIVE TO CHECK UNAUTHORIZED VENDING, OVERCHARGING & TOUTING AND TO ENSURE PROPER SUPPLY OF WATER AT STATIONS: DRMS TO MONITOR USING IP-BASED CCTV

In order to check unauthorized vending, overcharging, touting in ticketing, and to ensure proper supply of water during the ensuing summer at the stations of North Central Railway (NCR); GM/NCR, Shri M.C.Chauhan has ordered an intensive drive of 3 months over NCR. In this multipronged drive, officers and supervisory staff of commercial and RPF departments will be utilized to conduct surprise checks on stations-in particular the ‘A’ and ‘A-1’ category stations and on-board trains to ensure that there is no unauthorized vending/overcharging of food items within station premises and on-board trains passingthrough NCR. While all the foodstuffs being sold at stations and in trains will be monitored in this drive, special watch will be kept on bottled water. “We understand that bottled water is one of the main commodities which are misused by unscrupulous elements to earn extra money by overcharging in the summer season. Mostly the extra money is charged on the alibi of charges for cooling of water. We would like to emphatically state that no extra charges are leviable on cold water bottles and all water has to be sold on MRP only” said GM/NCR while talking on the issue. GM/NCR also said that in the financial year 2017-18, sustained action has been taken to apprehend unauthorized vendors, as a result of which 7583 unauthorized vendors were caught and prosecuted/fined. 83 water vending machines were also installed at important stationsof NCR in 2017-18 to ensure the availability of clean, hygienic, cool and affordable drinking water to passengers within station premises. In addition, during the summer season every year, members of the scouts and guides organization of NCR organize camps at major stations to serve fresh and cool water to passengers in trains stopping at these stations, in particular in the general and sleeper coaches. This year this activity of scouts and guides will be conducted at 12 main stations of NCR from 15th of May (Allahabad, Jhansi, Agra, Gwalior, Chunar, Kanpur, Mathura, Mirzapur, Aligarh, Tundla, Hathras and Orai). Summer holidays in schools will start in less than a month after which, the summer rush in trains will further intensify. To meet the challenges, NCR is committed to curb touting in railway ticketing. “We are very serious about curbing unauthorized vending, overcharging and touting and those caught indulging in the same will face maximum punishment in accordance with the provisions of the law. DRMs will have a proper check on unauthorized vending, touting. For this DRMs have been advised to install Displays of important stations in their chambers with feed of IP-Based-CCTVs to have proper check and online monitoring of unauthorized vending, touting as well as cleanliness of stations. While we are doing all that is possible to curb these evils, we also request our esteemed passengers to purchase water and eatables from authorized vendors only” said GM/NCR.
