COORDINATION MEETING HELD BETWEEN GM/NCR AND COMMISSIONER ALLAHABAD on KUMBH MELA-2019

On 5th July, 2018, a high level meeting was held between GM/NCR Shri M.C.Chauhan and Commissioner Allahabad Division, Dr. Ashish Goel on the subject of organizing of the Kumbh Mela in 2019, Chaired by GM/NCR. In the beginning of the meeting, GM/NCR welcomed all the officers attending the meeting. In his welcome address he said that a lot of issues have been resolved between the civil administration and the railways in the several rounds of meetings, which have preceded the current meeting. He expressed the hope that after this meeting there would be no bottlenecks remaining in the way to the successful organization of the Kumbh Mela. After the welcome address, the discussion on agenda points began. GM/NCR advised that the fare of roadways buses to be kept equal to or less than the fare of trains for comparable distances, so that pilgrims are encouraged to opt for both modes of transport equally rather than gravitating towards one mode of transport due to lower fares. GM also advised that infrastructure to visualize and monitor the crowds gathering within the premises of the railway stations in Allahabad-using Artificial Intelligence-to be installed and tested well in advance of the Kumbh Mela-2019, so as to avoid any failure at the actual time of the mela. The logistics of bringing 5000 NRIs from Varanasi to Allahabad between 21st to 25th of January (who will be assembling in Varanasi on the occasion of ‘Pravasi Bhartiya Divas’) and then taking them from Allahabad to New Delhi were discussed. It was decided in the meeting that detailed berthing plans and movement (traffic) plans for the special trains to be run during the Kumbh mela by all the three zonal railways having their jurisdiction in Allahabad (NCR, NER and NR), would be drawn up shortly. It was decided that all the ROBs under construction in Allahabad City would be complete within the target date i.e. October 2018.GM/NCR informed that the matter of acquisition of land for making an approach road to Subedarganj station, which would enable it to function as a separate satellite terminal, had been taken up with the Ministry of Defence.

The meeting concluded with Commissioner Allahabad expressing his thanks to GM/NCR for the constant coordination, guidance and leadership provided by him in the run-up to the Kumbh Mela-2019. Commissioner Allahabad felicitated GM/NCR for his contribution to the development of Allahabad and the preparations for organizing of the Kumbh Mela 2019. The meeting proceeded and concluded in a cordial atmosphere.
