COACH MID LIFE REHABILITATION WORKSHOP, JHANSI




Inaugurated by the then Chairman, Railway Board, Mr Arunendra Kumar  the Coach MLR Workshop came into existence on 31.10.2014 . Spread across 32 acres, the coach MLR workshop established in Jhansi is the second largest coach factory after Bhopal in its category.. With the overall setup cost amounting to `117.66 Cr, It is targeted toconvert 250 old coaches into new per year for Indian Railways.

For early and effective operationalisation of the workshop, proposals for creation of about 993 Non-gazetted and 11 Gazetted posts were submitted to Railway Board. 

So far, Railway Board has communicated sanction of 300 posts of technical categories in Gr ’C’ and have ordered transfer of 216 vacant posts of technicians of any categories in lowest recruitment grade @ 24 each from 9 Zonal Railways. Against options received and accepted in respect of 237 staff only 85 staff have joined till date. Shop has started functioning with this meagre strength.

SALIENT FEATURES OF MLR WORKSHOP


Compact shop with uniflow of coaches as work areas are planned to eliminate backtracking.

Support Shops closer to the main shops with uniflow of subassemblies in constituent shop.

Futuristic layout with capability to handle LHB coaches.

Designed capacity of 250 coaches with scope for future expansion to 500 coaches with minimal inputs.

No turnouts inside the shop to avoid track maintenance and derailments.

Escape line and multiple access with strategic location of surface traversers to facilitate placement of coaches and avoid congestion.

Shunting engine not required inside the shop for inter shop movement of coaches. Movement with the help of tractor shunter and surface traverser.

Neat and clean shops with wall to wall area paved to facilitate material flow and storages.

State of the art machines.

The layout was prepared by NCR after studying layouts of new coach workshops on   Indian Railways and the layout of MLR Jhansi has now been standardized by CAMTECH.This layout was further certified by Interfleet, UK, a consultancy firm.
