NCR TOPS INDIAN RAILWAYS IN GREEN ENERGY: INSTALLS 9.7MWp SOLAR POWER PLANTS IN 2017-18 GENERATING 13.1 MILLION UNITS OF GREEN ENERGY ANNUALLY
The North Central Railway (NCR), under the guidance of its GM Shri M.C.Chauhan has achieved the distinction of attaining the numero-uno position amongst all the zones of Indian Railways in the installation of solar power plants.The capacity of solar plants installed by NCR in the financial year 2017-18 is 9.7MWp, which is the highest capacity of solar power plants installed so far by any Zonal Railway. The electrical energy generated by 1MWp solar plant per day is approximately 3700 KWh. Hence, the annual energy generation by the 9.7 MWp solar power plants installed by NCR will be 13.1 million units. Besides having a 13.1 million units worth of positive environmental impact, this also translates into a saving of hard cash to the tune of Rs 7.8 crore per annum for NCR. In terms of reduction of carbon footprint , the installation of 9.7MWp of Solar Power Plants means a saving of 7100.12 Metric Ton in Carbon Dioxide emissions. In terms of carbon credits, the value of this saving in Carbon Dioxide emissions translates into annual credits worth Rs: 7164021(Rs Seventy one Lakh, Sixty Four Thousand and Twenty one).
Along with the record work of installation of solar power plants, NCR has also made all of its 338 stations 100% lit by LED lighting which will result in saving in energy to the tune of 5.89 million units , thereby an annual recurring saving of Rs: 6.18 crore. The reduction in carbon footprint will on account of all stations being made LED-Lit will be 3193 ton of Carbon Dioxide. “We have taken a multi-pronged approach to achieve maximum savings in electricity combining both generation of green-electricity and conservation of electricity produced by conventional sources” says GM/NCR. That the savings are annual and recurring in nature, augurs well for the environment as the environmental benefits will add up year after year for generations to come.
