NCR PROVIDES RELIEF TO BONAFIDE PASSENGERS: RESGISTERS 16% IMPROVEMENT IN TICKET CHECKING EARNINGS IN 2017-18 COMPARED TO 2016-17
The North Central Railway (NCR), provided much needed relief to bonafide-ticketed passengers over its system in the financial year 2017-18, which has just drawn to a close. In F.Y. 2017-18, NCR earned Rs 99.32 crore as penalties from ticketless/irregular travellers as well as those carrying unbooked luggage beyond the permissible limit. When compared to the financial year 2016-17, this is an increase of 16%. Besides adding more to the kitty of NCR in terms of earning, this increase is significant because ticket checking figures are directly related to passenger comfort, security and wellbeing. Ticketless/irregular travellers are usually the ones who disturb the bonafide-ticketed passengers, in particular women, children and the elderly. More often than not, they are the ones who are involved in crimes like thefts, unwarranted Alarm Chain Pulling (ACP), boarding women’s coaches etc. An increase in ticket checking earnings signifies an increase in the security and comfort to ticketed passengers. Another spinoff of effective ticket checking is that it leads to better compliance of laws by the fence sitters. once those, with an inclination to travel ticketless, become aware that ticket-checking drives are in progress, they drop their plans of ticketless-travel and make a beeline for the ticket window. Speaking on the achievement, GM/NCR said that in order to achieve this impressive increase in ticket checking earnings, periodic drives were launched in which squad checks in trains, fortress checks, ICP checks and bus raids were conducted to nab ticketless/irregular travellers. He also said that besides these drives, efforts were made to effectively man all the trains, especially the special trains passing through NCR. “We are constantly striving to provide a better and more secure travel experience to our esteemed passengers by taking all possible measures to check ticketless/irregular travel” he added.
