NCR TREATS MORE THAN 15500 SICK PILGRIMS AT ITS SPECIAL MEDICAL FACILITIES AT THE ALLAHABAD JUNCTION STATION, NAINI AND ALLAHABAD CHEOKI STATIONS CREATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF KUMBH MELA

The North Central Railway has lived up to its promise of providing prompt and adequate medical facilities to the pilgrims and passengers visiting its stations in the city of Prayagraj during the Kumbh Mela 2019. In anticipation of a heavy footfall at the stations of Indian Railways located in Prayagraj-in particular at Allahabad Junction station-during the Kumbh Mela, the North Central Railway Medical Department had requisitioned as many as 80 additional doctors (MBBS and above) for looking after the pilgrims and passengers who would be needing medical attention. In addition, for the first time, a six bedded emergency health unit has been set up set up at the Allahabad Junction station with medical booths at all platforms and passenger enclosures at all stations of Prayagraj, so that rapid and adequate medical attention could be provided to the passengers needing the same, including those in a serious condition constituting an emergency. That the planning was well thought out and has yielded sterling results is clear by the figures. Till 22nd January, more than 15500 patients have been successfully treated by the railway doctors at Allahabad Junction, Naini and Cheoki stations of NCR. Out of these, 9964 were treated on the main bathing day of Makar Sankrantiand 5582 were treated onPaush Poornima. Most of these patients complained of fever and breathlessness, abdominal infections, Urinary Tract Infection, backache, cough and cold. Out of these 15500 plus patients, 328 were diagnosed as ‘serious’ and were admitted at the ‘Hospital Ward’ specially set up at the station, and given emergency treatment thereby saving their lives. Speaking on the achievement, GM/NCR Shri Rajiv Chaudhry said that seeing the winter season, the age profile of the pilgrims coming for a holy dip and the sheer numbers of passengers, it was more than expected that Railways would have to deal with sick pilgrims/passengers at our stations, especially at the Allahabad Junction station and proper and adequate preparations were made for extending timely, and proper medical facilities to the pilgrims and passengers visiting our stations.“Clearly, our preparations have paid dividends” he added.
