GeneralManager NCR Sri Rajiv Chaudhry Inaugurated Free of Cost on wheel OPD services- The “Lifeline express”
On 18.12.2019, General Manager North Central railway Sri Rajiv Chaudhry inaugurated OPD services of Lifeline Express at Subedarganj station of North Central Railway.
A joint initiative of Indian Railway, Impact India foundation andMinistry of Health- The Lifeline Express was started in the year 1991 to provide on-the-spot diagnostic, medical and advanced surgical treatment for disabled adults and children. It is an outreach program for inaccessible rural areas where medical services are not available, traveling via Indian Railways. In addition to providing access to these much needed services, the Lifeline express seeks to improve the efficiency of the existing local government and voluntary health infrastructure and services, as well as providing initiative and encouragement for the local bodies to get involved in all aspects of the programme and provide follow-up services after the train has left. The Lifeline Express went on its maiden journey on 16 July 1991, with three coaches donated by Indian Railways, and the equipment from Impact India Foundation. Impact India Foundation is the Indian branch of a non-profit organization based in seven countries around the world, with its Indian headquarters in Mumbai. The Lifeline Express train is formed of specially-designed air-conditioned coaches. In 2007 Indian Railways provided five new coaches for the service. The first coach is a power car which also has a staff compartment and pantry area. The staff compartment is situated at the rear with a 12-berth staff-quarter, kitchen unit, water purifier, a gas stove and electric oven and refrigerator. The second coach consists of the medical store, as well as two autoclave units. It also houses a drawing room. The train has a main Operation Theatre with three operating tables and a second self-contained operating theatre with two tables. Operation theatres are also equipped with a closed circuit television camera which is used in providing training to local doctors in live surgical procedures. An attached six bed recovery room is situated beside the main theatre. Additionally, the train has an ophthalmologic testing room, a dental unit, a laboratory, an X-ray unit and an auditorium with a large LCD display unit. The train also has a public address system and closed-circuit TV. The Lifeline Express provides a number of medical services including Orthopedic ,Ophthalmological procedures ,Surgical interventions ,Plastic Surgical correction , Epilepsy ,Counseling and referral services ,Liaison with local health authorities ,Immunizations and other preventive measures.
With help of vast network of Indian Railway having outreach to remotest part of the country it has already provided free Medicare tomore than 120 thousands patients in 138 districts spread over 19 states and has the distinction of being world first and biggest such medical facility on wheels.
While inaugurating the OPD service of Lifeline Express GM Sri Chaudhry said that adequate publicity should be done including Railway Colonies so as its benefits reaches to masses especially those from economically weaker section of Society. During its halt at Subedarganj station from 18thDecember-2019 to 8th January 2020, Lifeline express is expected to cater more than 10000 patients from Prayagraj and nearby districts. During inspection of on board facilities GM Sri Chaudhry also suggested that digital means like LED TVs etc. can be used for spreading awareness among patients on healthcare issues coming to Lifeline express for treatment. He further added that facilities and awareness program related to personal hygiene for women will have far reaching impact on wellbeing of women living in Rural areas. He also assured doctors and members from Impact India Foundation that all possible helps shall be rendered to Lifeline Express team by NCR so as maximum number of people get benefitted.
PCMD NCR Dr Anand Tandon, other Principal Head of Departments of NCR, DRM Allahabad Sri Amitabha, Doctors and Team from Imact india Foundation were present during the Inauguration program.
