Arrangements and plan of action o­n North Central Railway to sustain and upscale essential goods and parcel services in extended lockdown period till 3rdMay 2020

NCR registered highest improvement in average speed of Goods trains among all Zonal Railways - Will ensure fast transportation of essential goods during lockdown.

In continuation of the measures taken in the wake of COVID-19 , it has already been decided by Railway Board and communicated widely that the cancellation of all passenger train services o­n Indian Railways that is , all Mail/Express (including premium trains), passenger trains ,suburban trains and trains of Metro Railway , Kolkata shall be extended till 3rd May, 2020 ,for the cancelled trains, full refund of fares shall be arranged to the passengers , no advance reservation shall be done until further advice from Railway Board , levy of Demurrage , wharfageetc shall not arise in the period of 22.03.20 to 03.05.20 &freight and parcel trains will continue to run as at present . Besides above following efforts are being made o­n NCR for sustaining and upscaling essential goods & parcel train operations and mitigating chances of Corona Virus Spread.

1.North Central Railway has made it mandatory for all employeesto compulsorily wear specified reusable face cover / mask / Gamcha etc. at all workplaces. Family members of Railway employees are alsoto wear face cover / triple layered mask / Gamcha etc. while stepping out from home. Necessary poster, notices to this effect are also being provided at workplaces all over NCR. North central Railway has already given input of more than 230000 reusable face covers and 15000 lts. Sanitizer besides soap etc at all work places.

2.North Central railway has made elaborate arrangements for running of freight and parcel trains during extended lock down period.North Central Railway is facilitating booking and receipt of parcel from 40 notified parcel stations which includes –

3.During lockdown NCR is making all efforts to ensure fast and timely running of goods and parcel trains o­n its territory through targeted inputs in maintenance of assets and improved operation of trains.With these efforts average freight train speed o­n NCR between first 10 days of April-2020 was 38.6 Kmph against average of 22.2 Kmph in fist 10 days of March-2020, thus an improvement of 73.87% in average speed of goods trains during lockdown which is best among all Zonal Railways.GM NCR and NR Sri Rajiv Chaudhry complemented officers and staff of North Central Railway and stressed upon that we have to sustain and scale up this performance to ensure adequate supply of essential commodity in all part of the country. o­n complete Indian Railway basis average speeds are 31.3 in April against 22.8 in March for first 10 days thus an improvement 37.28%.
