Helping the less privileged during Covid-19 crisis

Efforts made on NCR to help daily wage earners, contractual staff, porters etc.

Besides discharging its professional duty, North Central Railway has been on the forefront in discharging its social duties during this National crisis and have taken many important initiatives in helping the less privileged in this tough time.Following notable efforts were taken by NCR in this regard:

·Railway Board had advised all zone and other units in its jurisdiction for voluntary contribution of one day salary by each Railway employee in Prime Minister’s Citizen assistance and relief in emergency situation fund ( PM Cares). In response to this national call, North Central Railway has contributed Rs 7.32 crores in PM Cares fund.

·Employees of NCR have worked tirelessly to keep alive the Railways’ commitment of social service by selflessly and voluntarily providing hot cooked meals , packed food and water to needy people during the lockdown due to COVID-19. North Central Railway provided cooked food with paper plates or in food packets through RPF , Scouts & Guide , IRCTC base kitchen and many individual and collective efforts from employees from all department . With these efforts NCR could serve approximately 1 Lakh meals during lockdown with contribution of 28116 ,3865& 63797 from Prayagraj , Jhansi and Agra divisions in this noble work.

·Besides contribution to PM Cares, voluntary Covid-19 funds were also set up at HQ and divisional level to sustain the above effort of serving food, ration etc. to needy persons, daily wage earners, porter , contractual staff etc . Contribution of Rs1.5 lakhs to Praygraj and Rs75000 each to Jhansi and Agra division was made from HQ Covid-19 fund to support divisional efforts.

·Prayagraj division served 227 ration kits to needy persons, 155 to porters and another 70 to railway staff through voluntary Covid-19 funds. Similar efforts were done by Agra and Jhansi divisions too.

·Owing to complete suspension of passenger services during lockdown, Porters were rendered jobless. besides helping them directly by serving food and ration NCR also acted as facilitator and arranged relief of Rs 1000 from government of Uttar Pradesh by compiling and submitting their details, account numbers etc to state authorities.Approx. 750 porters of Praygraj Jn. , Kanpur , Tundla , Etwah , Khurja , Phaphud , Agra Cantt. , Mathura , Agra Fort , Jhansi , Orai , Lalitpur and Banda stations got benefitted through this direct relief money transferred to their bank accounts .

·Approximately 750 contractual labourers stranded at different stations of NCR were served meals, ration etc. during the lockdown period.

·To facilitate door to door supply of essential grocery and daily use items a kit sufficient for a family for a week consisting of flour, rice-, pulses, sugar, salt, refined oil, spices, soap , biscuits , snacks etc at whole sale price of Rs 650 was made and supplied to 870 railway families at their door step at Prayagraj and Kanpur during lockdown .
