NCR welcomes Olympians in a grand fashion

GM NCR felicitates Gurjit Kaur and NishaWarsi

Gurjit and Nisha welcomed with flowers and petals all their way in NCR HQ building

North Central Railway, o­n Friday 20.08.2021 gave a grand reception to Gurjit Kaur and NishaWarsi, the two members of Indian women hockey team who took India to semifinals in Tokyo Olympics.

Gurjit and Nisha were taken to NCR HQ in a decorated open gypsy with RPF band leading and playing the tune of SaareJahaan Se Achcha Hindustan hamara.

They were joined by officers and sportspersons of NCR and people pay their respects by showering rose petals upon them along their way.

The procession started from the gate of Railway Colony NCR where CPRO Shri. Shivam Sharma and Dy. Chief Vigilance Officer Shri Ankur Chandra welcomed them by presenting bouquet of honor and flagged off the caravan. NCR Hockey coach SmtPushpaShrivastava accompanied the Olympians all their way.

Upon reaching the Headquarter Office, the players were welcomed by Shri Sharad Mehta, President NCR sports association. Shri Mehta took the players towards the conference hall where felicitation ceremony was planned.

GM NCR Shri Pramod Kumar and President NCRWWO SmtPoonam Kumar felicitated Gurjit and Nisha by presenting a shawl, bouquet and memento.

Speaking o­n the occasion, GM said that Gurjit and Nisha have become an inspiration for all. GM further said that NCR will provide best possible assistance to their sportspersons so that more Gurjits and Nishas could bring laurels for the nation in future. DyCVO Shri Ankur Chandra gave a brief introduction of both the players and narrated their struggle story and journey till olympics.

Speaking in his welcome address, President NCRSA Shri Sharad Mehta said that this is a proud moment for NCR and we will do whatever best is possible to gain more such proud moments in future.

GM NCR also shared that process of promotion of both the players in officer cadre has already started and announcement for the same will be done in due course.

A short clipping of 2.5 minutes compiling some memorable moments of Hockey Matches of Indian Team in Olympics was played, which left everyone getting emotional imbibed with a sense of patriotism.

Gurjit and Nisha while speaking o­n the occasion said that they never expected such a warm reception and expressed their gratitude towards NCR.

The formal ceremony ended with the vote of thanks proposed by CPRO Shivam Sharma. A large number of players were also present along with the members of the men's and women's hockey teams of North Central Railway o­n this occasion.
