North Central Railway's badminton team secured medals for the first time in the Inter Railway Badminton Championship
Won bronze medal in women's team event and silver medal in women's doubles
The 68th All India Railway Badminton Championship 2021-22 was organized (by East Coast Railway) at Visakhapatnam from 25 to 29 April 2022. The team of North Central Railway is participating continuously in this competition since its inception. This time for the first time, North Central Railway secured medals.
North Central Railway team won bronze medal in women's team event. In the third place match, North Central Railway beat South East Central Railway 2-1. The team consisted of Tapaswani Samantroy, Shivani Singh, Soumya Singh and Keerti Singh. The gold of the competition was won by West Central Railway and silver by Northern Railway.
In the same sequence, the women's doubles team of Tapaswani and Shivani won the silver medal for North Central Railway. In this, Tapaswini / Shivani defeated North Frontier Railway pair Barnali Kanwar / Kaveri Phukan by 21-12, 19-21, 22-20 in the quarters and in the semi-finals defeated South East Central Railway Diksha Chaudhary / K. Preeti by 21-15, 16-21 and 21-17. In the final, North Central Railway's players lost 14-21, 21-16, 21-19 to Shreyanshi Pardesi/Vaish V Bhale of Central Railway in a hard-fought match and North Central Railway finished second in this competition.
Apart from this, the male player of North Central Railway, Sahil also played till the quarter finals. He defeated Lalit Dahiya of North Western Railway 21-12, 21-13 in the pre-quarterfinals whereas, he lost to Chirag Sen of Northern Railway 21-16, 21-10 in the quarterfinals.
On this achievement, the General Manager of North Central Railway Shri Pramod Kumar congratulated the team members and wished them all the best for the upcoming competitions and expressed hope that in future also they would continue to achieve similar achievements for North Central Railway.
Badminton coaches of North Central Railway, Mr. Chandraprakash and Mr. Dharmendra Kumar Nishad also expressed happiness over the achievement of the team especially the women players.
