Plantation program organised at NCR HQ

World Environment Day celebrated over North Central Railway

Today the World Environment Day was celebrated over North Central Railway. Various events were organized signifying this years theme “Only Earth”.. over the zone. On this occasion, a plantation program was organized in the presence of Shri Pramod Kumar, General Manager, North Central Railway at NCR headqaurters. Shri Kumar planted saplings in the North Central Railway Headquarters office premises along with AGM NCR Shri Ranjan Yadav and other Principal heads of departments of North Central Railway.

5th June is celebrated as World Environment Day over entire North Central Railway, with the aim to create awareness about environmental issues, every year. This year, programs were organized to spread awareness widely. Rail is the most eco-friendly transport medium and with the aim of making it completely environment friendly, efforts are in progress to make it zero carbon emitter. In this sequence, North Central Railway is moving ahead at a fast pace to achieve the mission of 100% electrification. A total of 439 route kilometer have been electrified in the year 2021-22.

Several steps have been taken by the North Central Railway in the field of energy conservation. 11.03 MW peak solar power plants have been installed in NCR thereby saving a revenue of Rs 5.01 crore by generating 124 lakh units of electricity during the year 2021-22.  North Central Railway also contributed towards environmental causes by reducing carbon emissions to the tune of  10500 metric tonnes. 

LED lights have been installed at all stations, office buildings and staff quarters of North Central Railway there by saving  Rs 8.70 crore o­n energy expenses. Also, a saving of Rs.5.9 crore has been made by using more than 53000 energy efficient fans. In this sequence, during the year 2021-22, rain water harvesting plants have also been established at 49 places.

30 major stations of North Central Railway are being developed as EcoSmart stations with ISO 14001 certification. In this sequence, energy audit of 30 stations has also been done. Seven installations of North Central Railway have been acknowledged with Green Rating Certificate. A total of 1036812 saplings were planted during the year 2021-22. 

While speaking o­n the occasion, General Manager said that North Central Railway is working with full responsibility towards environmental issues. I hope and believe that our railways will continue to contribute significantly in the conservation and promotion of the eco-friendly system. He said that works worth Rs. 21.80 crore have been sanctioned or completed by North Central Railway under 1% Environment related work scheme.

On this occasion, various programs including plantation drives, rallies, awareness programs – street plays and various competitions were organized in three divisions and workshops of the zone.
