Real-time Train Information System (RTIS)- A major step towards punctual and safer train journey
Real-time Train Information System (RTIS) project is being executed by Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS), in collaboration with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
RTIS is being installed on the electric locomotives for automatic tracking of train movement data which includes arrival, departure, run-through timings at the station en route as well as speed of the trains.
Control charts of the trains hauled by RTIS enabled locomotives get plotted automatically in the Control Office Application (COA) system.
RTIS also gives mid-section location updates, including the current speed of the train, with a periodicity of 30 seconds. Train Controllers can now track the location and speed of RTIS enabled locomotives/trains more accurately. RTIS data can also be accessed on mobile phones.
If first phase, 2700 electric locomotives of Indian Railways have been fitted with RTIS. 115 locomotives of Electric Loco Shed, Kanpur of North Central Railway have already been provided with RTIS. In second phase, 4000 more electric locomotives have been planned to be fitted with RTIS.
Once fully implemented, information generated using RTIS will have more accurate location of trains, better forecast of arrival time etc. for enhanced convenience of passengers. It will also help in analysing actual running of each train in a particular section and will also come handy in pinpointing exact delays in section on various accounts. This will also enable our controllers to identify any abnormal stoppage of trains in section arising out of any emergency or incident so as requisite assistance is sent immediately.
