North Central Railway, the workhorse of Indian Railways, spreads across three divisions viz Prayagraj, Jhansi and Agra. It serves 53% route of Howrah-New Delhi trunk route between Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhayay Jn. to Ghaziabad Jn. and 26% route of New Delhi-Chennai route between Palwal to Bina Jn.


North Central Railway extends over four states of India-Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan with 411 railway stations and about 3522 route km. rail network comprising predominately, double line- electrified sections.



812 Mail/Express & 190 Passenger trains over Broad Gauge are scheduled to run over North Central Railway system. 



Freight traffic density on this Railway is one of the highest in Indian Railways and at present average 680 freight trains interchange per day. Track capacity utilization on trunk route viz Ghaziabad-Pandit Deen Dayal Jn. from 121% to 157% and Palwal-Bina ranges from 106% to 150%.
